How to calculate the energy produced by a windmill?

Posted on 31st January 2011 by admin in energy windmill

I want to know how to calculate the energy produced by a windmill with variables such as wind speed, diameter of blades, and other things. Also I want to know how to tell how efficient a windmill is.
I now know that the equation for the power of a windmill is KWh (year) = 0.01328 x d^2 x v^3, where d is the diameter of the blades, and v is the velocity/speed of the wind. What is the constant 0.01328 stands for?
I also want to know the costs vs benefits of building a windmill.

Hey Arty, I’m not sure where that formula came from, it looks like someone has modified the original to make it simpler by combining some variables and constants, and switched to diameter from area. If you want to go to the source, here is the widely accepted formula for calculating power available from a wind turbine.

P = .5 X rho X A X v3

P is power in watts
.5 is a constant
rho is the air density, in kilograms per cubic meter I think, but at sea
level, it should be about 1.225
A is the swept area of the turbine blades, in square meters
V is the velocity of the wind in meters per second. The velocity
is cubed in the formula.

This formula has been around for years, but if you would like a good explanation and some variations on it, check out the American Wind Energy Associations website, at AWEA.org
I believe…There are two guys in the United States who are considered the gurus on wind turbines, one is Mick Sagrillo from Wisconsin, and the other is Paul Gipe, who has written several books, including, "Wind Power for the Home and Business." You could probably find it and others by both people in your library. Here are some other sources, check them out and see what you can learn. Good luck, and take care, Rudydoo

Windmill Generators Save the Planet and Your Budget Earth 4 Energy Shows You How

Posted on 24th January 2011 by admin in energy windmill

Windmill generators are increasingly becoming a more reliable way to save energy. Because of this there are more out there now than ever before. People have learned they are a viable method of creating an alternate source of energy. We all seem to be using more electricity than in the past. This is due to the electronic world in which we now live. Yet paying for that additional electricity can be a heavy burden. A windmill generator, which is easily constructed when using the step by step guide provided by Earth 4 Energy. Listed below are just some of the benefits for using this alternative energy supply.

Do Your Part to Save the Planet

We all have a responsibility to do what we can to save our natural resources. Too often we use them without thinking of the long term problems that is creating. The information supplied at Earth 4 Energy shows you how to enjoy your day to day favorite electronic devices by feeling good about the electricity you consume. Our planet is getting more and more polluted every day. By installing your home windmill, you could be part of a new movement commonly referred to as, "going green".

Tax Incentives

Many areas offer tax incentives to those that are willing to install a wind generator because it helps the environment as a whole. Information on how this alternative energy supply goes hand-in-hand with a tax break and more importantly, how large of a break, can easily be researched online. This tax incentive has helped spur the development of windmill farms throughout the United States as well as compel homeowners to build their own windmill generators. Why not join the money-saving phenomenom?

Cut Down on Electricity Expenses

There are likely to be plenty of other things you would like spend your money on rather than simply sending it over to the electric company faster than you can earn it. Times are getting tough when it comes to money, and we are all looking for a way to start saving our hard earned cash. With the help of Earth 4 Energy you can use a home windmill generator to create your own electricity and drastically cut down on your electric bill.

Quality and Dependability:

Earth 4 Energy will show you step by step how quick and easy the assembly process is when building your own windmill. The construction of the windmill could be completed in less than a day and will help save you thousands in electric bills due to it’s efficiency and durability.

Building your own windmill may seem like an overwhelming idea at first, but with the assistance of Earth 4 Energy, it really is not. The step by step how-to guide makes construction quick and simple. Once installed, you will be amazed at how easy it is to start saving money. Make a difference on your wallet and planet by building your own windmill with the help of Earth 4 Energy.

How do you harness the energy of a windmill?

Posted on 23rd January 2011 by admin in energy windmill

im 17 and im very interested in engineering especially energy wise
i like to make things better like windmills or solar panels

how do u harness the energy of a windmill and better yet wats the best way to make one from home?

You dont
Windmills are for milling grains ,and are run by the Miller .
who does the Milling
that is why they are called WindMILLS

but few operate today ,the few that are left are tourist attractions ,Restaurants or even private homes.

I think you must be talking about Wind generators who generate electricity by turning alternators ,like a dynamo

check this one out it is the latest design ,that does not kill birds

Where can I find a calculator that sums the total investment of solar panels of my home?

Posted on 14th January 2011 by admin in solar panels home

I think it used Google Earth I could draw the area the panels would be installed

You’re looking for RoofRay - http://www.roofray.com/

You can outline the roof, tell it the pitch, and it will figure out how much area you have available for solar panels and what they might produce in your area, assuming no shading issues.

You can also put in utility bills, and it will give you an estimate of savings, ROI, etc.

How Much Do Solar Panels Cost

Posted on 6th January 2011 by admin in solar panels for homes

Solar panels are of many different shapes and sizes but their main purpose is to convert the sun’s rays in order to make electricity. Solar Panels are made of a material called Photovoltaic, or PV. Photovoltaic cells are self generating and are of a very thin film made of silver. This thin film is attached to a semiconductor layer that can be found on an iron substrate. The photovoltaic cells ability to produce enough sunlight and heat is very important in order to successfully produce the energy that is needed to heat up water, heat homes and power electricity.

Solar panels are very common and are present in many different products, such as calculators, satellites, or even space ships. The effectiveness of these panels ability to redirect the sunlight and use it for electricity is amazing. It all started over one hundred years ago when a man got the bright idea to use the heat from the sun to power his machinery equipment. His concept was to use the steam from the hot sun light in order to start and maintain his machines. Sparkle with the excitement of discovery, several scientists did not waste any time traveling to see how this discovery worked. Today, there have been unbelievable products that have increased the convenience and the need to use a natural resource such as the sun in order to power heavy machinery.

How much do solar panels cost depends on the shape and size, the brand and the amount of power in watt each panel produce. You can expect to pay an average of $5.00 to $15.00 per watt depending on the brand of the panel. A full panel price will vary from $70.00 up to $1,000.00. Panels are installed flat on the roof, each one generating about 200 watts of electricity when the sun is shining on it. The panels are attached next to each other forming an array. A five panels system can generate approximately 1,000 watts of power, which is about 10 to 15 per cent of the consumption of a typical house on an annual basis.

What are some devices that can be ran off solar panels in the home using batteries?

Posted on 5th January 2011 by admin in solar panels home

Some things I found out that work are?

Door bells, eliminating a power packs.

12v fans used to boost registers to a furnace.

12v LED lighting.

Cordless telephones.

Radios.

12v TV’s

Battery chargers

Cell phone chargers

Any other suggestions would be great, what else would work? I need to cut back on energy.

Anything can be run off of solar, it just depends on how big your panels are and how long you want to run them etc. A small panel that costs $150 might run a TV. Solar is great as a back up or charging system. I want to get one of those solar car batt chargers to keep your batt charged always.
