A windmill produces 140 Watts of energy steadily for 3 hours. This energy is used to pump water
from a pond to a water tank 50 m above the ground. If the pump efficiency is 80%, how much
water in liters would have been lifted at the end of 3 hours?

First of all, 140 Watts is not *energy* it is power. But, we need to calculate the energy generated by the windmill. THat is: 140 Watts * time, which is 3hours, which is 10800 seconds, for a total of 140 * 10800 = 1.512 MegaJoules

Multiply that by 80% to get the pump power: 1.21 MJ

That’s the 1st half of the problem
The 2nd half:
Water has a mass of 1 kg/liter

Work = force * distance (basic formula — memorize it)
Force = mass * acceleration (basic formula — memorize it)
so…
Work = mass * acceleration * distance (work = mad — easy to remember)
The mass = 1 kg (per liter)
The acceleration is due to gravity = 9.8 m/s²
The distance = 50 m

All the energy generated by the pump, must equal all the work done
1.21 MJ = (x)kg* 9.8m/s² * 50m
x = 2470 kg = 2470 liters

The first step in making a residential windmill is to pick the type of wood that will withstand great wind flow. From a common standpoint or perspective, the ideal length of wood is just one meter.
